Singing in the Rain

Because Utah is part of an expansive desert known as the Great Basin, I rarely get to enjoy days like today--rain, wind, and more rain. I absolutely love the rain; this week at work was told I was crazy and likely a depressed person. Crazy, perhaps, but depressed, definitely not. Even Wikipedia indicates that rain "metaphorically has a sad and negative connotation... And though the traditional notion of rain in the Western World is negative, rain can also bring joy, as some consider it to be soothing or enjoy the aesthetic appeal of it." So as everyone was making their indoor plans for the weekend, I've been making my outdoor plans. We went up Little Cottonwood Canyon last night--gorgeous. And this morning I went running and ended up completely drenched, sloshing through puddles. Now we are at the SLC library sitting doing our mounds of homework, and naturally I'm sitting right by the window. Loving it!!

Now, for those of you who are skeptical (read: friends from California, AZ, those worried about your hair, etc.), here are some key benefits of rain: increased vitality for natural plant species, decrease of drought possibility, improved skin health (less lotion!), better air quality, improved agriculture, decreased use of artificial water sources, snow in the mountains! and the peace of hearing drops land all around you.

I want you to know that I hate the rain. Yesterday, while visiting teaching, Kate Ensign-Lewis and Melissa Lindsey were saying that they love seasons and stuff, and I was like "honestly, I hate seasons, sorry guys." I hate this weather. No disrespect for season lovers.

Just one more reason to love you...It rained here a few days ago and, believe it or not, I thought to myself, "Shannon would be so happy about this right now."

Did you get to do the Seattle Hair Waive? I still do that to this day, the one time a year it rains in San Diego.
