The Motherland

Well it has been an intense couple weeks, trying to determine where we need to be, but we are excited and relieved to finally have an answer! It’s ironic how these things work out because we went into the temple with one place in mind, and came out with a different answer. We have decided to stay in Salt Lake City—a city that we’ve absolutely loved living in, one where we both have great jobs, and one where we should be able to buy a home in the relatively near future! We are so excited! I do have to say, it was really hard to turn down San Francisco--my dream city--and the sticker shock that comes with such high offers there. Too bad cost of living is even higher ;) Ultimately it was even harder to turn down Mitch’s great offer in SLC, where he will start off with director-level responsibilities at Okland! In the end it really wasn’t our decision to make. I have to say it is strange how the Lord works—I never thought I’d want to live in Utah but I’m after our fasting and prayers I’m more excited about it than any other place. We are SO ecstatic!!

As I told my sister on the phone: “We are staying in the Motherland!” Haaa. So whenever you come to visit SLC, as I’m sure many of you will at least once a year or so, please come see us. And for those of you elsewhere, don’t get discouraged—we already are planning trips to visit our fav cities this year :)

Congratulations on making a decision. That's a huge step. It's funny that you thought you'd leave Utah and ended up staying. You are not the first person I know in the last little while. It seems to be an interesting trend. I am personally partial to SLC, growing up there so I am very excited for you.

yay! it's true, all us morms return to the motherland AT LEAST once a year, which means many fun houseguests for you! to be honest...i'd take buying a home over high rents in some "cool" city right now. i've been reading the "your heart out" blog lately and it really makes me miss utah. congrats again!

Congrats! I'm sure it's nice to finally know where you're going to end up after school. Even if it means not going very far. And yes, we'll have to come see you every once in awhile. I keep telling Heather B. that my family is here forever and we'll be making many trips back to Utah.

I am glad to see that you ended up making the decision using a more reliable method than blog comments, flipping a coin, or using a magic eight ball :) Woo hoo for permanent Utahans!

Who said anything about permanence?
