Fromage. C'est Magnifique...

Cheese is the reason I could never be a vegan. My friend is vegan for lent. What one thing is she pining for most? Cheese. I love all and any kinds of cheeses—the smellier the better. Was anyone else in the French Club at BYU? Do you remember the glorious Soiree Fromage nights? I’ve been trying to reenact that at our apartment. Every week I try to buy one new amazing kind of specialty cheese. It started off this summer when Mitch was in Seattle. I kept thinking, hey, I can eat cheese, tomatoes, and baguettes for 3 months straight! I initially went with the basics: camembert, brie, farmers cheese, Dubliner cheddar… but lately I’ve been loving to go back and forth between hard and soft cheeses. This week is gruyere, maybe next week goat chevre or Emmental… mmm. Drooling just thinking about it. Cheese party anyone?

mmm gruyere is the best. you have to try ina garten's mac and cheese recipe. it's basically 3 parts gruyere, 1 part noodles.

p.s. that cartoon is classic.

I have a great cheese fondue recipe with gruyere cheese. It is SOOO good with steamed vegetables, french breads, meats, and apples to dip! mmmm

Ohhhhhhhh cheeeeeeeeeeeesssssseeeeeeeee party! Just tell me when and where! I adore Brie on a crusty baguette. Heaven! Also on Hawaiian rolls. Random combo, I know. But try it and tell me what you think. And I use Gruyere on top of the bread on top of French onion soup mmmm! Matt's fav is Roquefort, a little pungent for me. I could seriously eat a pound of Gouda all by myself! We love cheese in our fam...little Frenchy got a taste of the good stuff on his mission and hasn't turned back since!

I wish I was as daring as you when it comes to the stinky cheeses...one of these days I'll work up the nerve.

Mmm cheese. You are so fashionable. I'm often afraid of branching out. What would you recommend for a complete beginner (seriously, I only ever eat cheddar)?

Jack, if you want to go for a soft cheese with a rind I would start with Camambert. It's very mild. If you want to start with a hard cheese I'd say Fontina or Emmental (which is very mild and nutty). You need to come down to SLC on Friday for Ash's sleepover and we can eat cheese!

Yes! When are you coming out to San Fran? That would be a fun getaway. My mom and I are coming out to UT the last week of March and want to go to The Melting Pot! Have you ever been?
