We had a wonderful Thanksgiving week with my sister and two of her kids in town—she is the master of motherhood and multi-tasking! She cleaned our house, made three meals a day, watched her kids, and even watched little E when I needed a good nap.
On Thanksgiving Day at Mitch’s parents’ home:
Isn’t my sis gorgeous? I can’t believe she’s had 4 kids!
Everyone getting ready to eat (Emerson was sleeping…); Terri and Carly made an awesome Thanksgiving meal. It was nice not having to cook!
Madeline loved playing the the snow here.
And on Monday Emerson turned 3 weeks old! He has been getting a lot more alert and active. Here are some tidbits about him:
- He can now hold his head up for minutes at a time and loves to look at the lights, especially coming through the blinds.
- We took our first trip to Target last week and yesterday went to the grocery store. He did great and I’m happy to report he loves sleeping in his car seat. Makes running errands very smooth.
- Emerson loves walks—we go on one everyday (love the BOB stroller) and he falls asleep. He loves when I go over big bumps or curbs; all the rocking really puts him to sleep. And it feels great for me to start getting active again, though it is getting really cold in Utah.
- He continues to be such a sweet and calm baby—he is happy nearly all the time unless he has a big burp or gas. He rarely cries and sleeps in his own bassinet every night.
- We found out E does not like Thai Masaman Curry, which is sad because I love it. The next day he was spitting up at every feeding! Poor guy.
- He had his circumcision last week; I couldn’t bare to be in the room so I waited out in the pediatrician’s lobby. Mitch said he only whimpered when he got the anesthetic, but didn’t cry at all during the circumcision. We’re so proud of him; he is a really tough little guy.
- The dreaded umbilical cord nub has now fallen off—makes changing diapers much easier.
- At his last doctor’s appt. his body and length were only measuring in the 20th percentile, but his head was the 50th. (We think he’s gonna be a smart kid, though he does have a skinny body!!)
- We love that Mitch works only 5 minutes away and comes home for lunch almost everyday—it’s the best time of our day. E gets some great daddy time at lunch and Mitch loves it; they are best buddies.
- He loves getting baths and especially loves when we wash his hair. (Mitch and I love how fluffy all the blonde hair is right after the bath.)
- He smiles whenever I touch my nose to his—so cute.
- I usually have spit-up on my shirt :)
Here are some pictures of our guy:
Look at those skinny legs!
He always tries to eat his blanket.
Happy :)

Shannon, you look fantastic! And you thought it was going to take forever to get your old self back. Seriously, you look great. Emmerson is adorable and I am glad you are having so much fun being a mom.
I can't wait to hold him again! Thanks for taking naps so I could. ;)
That is the smartest thing you can do to get them used to falling asleep on their own. It sounds like you two are adjusting very well to parenthood!
So so cute and you look amazing as well. Let me know when is a good time for you, I would love to stop by.
ahhh! I love E's skinny legs! SO cute! :)
(Also, I love the rounded edges on your photos...How do you make them like that?)
Gaines is the exact opposite with his baths, he likes it until I wash his hair, he HATES it! I love E's skinny little legs, he's so cute!
