Who are these runners leaping and smiling at mile 26? I just have to say that last night I did 9 miles and I my legs felt like throbbing lead the second I stopped; I am seriously hobbling at work today I’m so sore. And I don’t even want to start with how sick my insides felt. Granted it was 20 degrees outside when I ran it, meaning extreme soreness is inevitable, but it is by no means joyous. Today my friend told me about this guy who does relay 200 mile marathons by himself (the kind that are meant to be done with a team of 6 or 7). And he goes for like 50 mile runs on weekdays—that is complete insanity. I think I’ll stick with my 11 minute miles, 10 Advils before each run, and long baths after.
This is likely what I’ll look like even just running a half marathon:

Shannon, you'll do better than you think. It's still January and you are already running 9 miles. You'll so be ready to go by April. You could be ready for the full marathon! The longest I ran before my half marathon was 8 miles one week before, and I was still able to run the whole thing. Granted, I didn't feel great for about an hour after, and I certainly didn't look like any of these jubilant fellows crossing the finish line, but it wasn't as bad as you think.
ok I'm obsessed with this post- I have ALWAYS wondered who can muster the energy for an obnoxious picture at the finish line. I mean, maybe the starting line, but no freegn way after 26.2 miles! But Smile or no smile, will you promise to get a really jazzy running outfit? I can come over with a bedazzler if I need to...
I can't believe you're even considering it. Or that you ran 9 miles. No matter what happens at the finish line, I'm already bowing down to you!
Hahaha! I was seriously laughing out loud reading this because I'm sure I'd be right there with ya! Those people in those picture just can't be normal! But you'll do great! Good luck!
I didnt know you were running a marathon! I am so proud of you!! I can even seem to run 1 mile!! youre my hero!

Way to go! I've been wanting to run a marathon for a couple years, but considering the fact that I can't even run A mile I don't see it happening too soon, lol.
BUT, I need to tell you, I read this post at work and commented about it to my very running-savvy coworker (just ran the NY marathon for the 4th time.) She told me I definitely needed to tell you you're NOT supposed to take Advil before you run any more than 6 miles. It's REALLY bad on your kidneys, and to please please switch to Tylenol.
BE CAREFUL!!!!
