Remembered

I will follow suit to post about the beloved Gordon B. Hinckley, who passed away on Sunday. We found out about 15 minutes after it happened via a text message to Mitch’s younger brother from someone at a stake conference where they announced it… talk about how quickly Mormons can spread the word! Mitch and I were sad, but somewhat happy for him to see his wife again. Can you imagine having a spouse pass away? I think that something like 90% of elderly people die within 2 – 4 years of their spouse passing, showing how painful it must be.

President Hinckley is the only church president I’ve had since I’ve been a member, so in a sense it’s weird for me to think of the church without him. In Mitch’s church history class right now they’re learning about the prophetic succession after the death of Joseph Smith, and how much confusion it caused for many church members (hence the reorganized church, fundamentalists, etc.). I’m just grateful we know who will come next! And as Mitch says, we know the Lord wants President Monson to be the next prophet, otherwise he would have died before Hinckley. Agreed.
