Best Breakfast in SLC

Scratch that... best MEAL in Salt Lake! A couple guys at Mitch's office who served missions in France/Belgium introduced us to Bruges at the SLC Farmers Market. After trying these amazing Belgian Waffles, I realized I had never had a real Belgian Waffle in my life. They are nothing like traditional waffles made with batter--they are made with dough, infused with tiny balls of sugar, and then almost fried on the waffle maker. The sugar balls carmelize when they hit the heat. Mitch's friends said they'd never had an authentic Belgian waffle like this since their missions, so we knew (or hoped) we were getting the real thing.

If you live in or visit SLC, you MUST try it. And the best tip is to get a plain waffle. Nothing on it. So divine. Though it sounds weird, this is apparently how the Belgians do it, and the taste is much better than with toppings.

However, two weeks ago I opted for the Patriotic special, seen below:

Looks delightful. I had a real Belgian waffle in Spain. It was an excellent stand alone pastry. Those Europeans know how to bake. I'll have to try that place out the next time I visit home.
