As many of you may or may not know, I am a horrible horrible green thumb. I’ve killed nearly every plant we’ve ever owned. It kills me to not have real plants in the house though, knowing about how much they help the air and get rid of toxins, so a couple years ago I convinced Mitch to let me get a big house plant. I figured if it was one really big one, it could compensate for having no others in the house. Also, that way I could put all my time and attention on keeping it alive. Oops.
Over the past couple years you’ve probably noticed this dying atrocity looming in our house.
Recently I decided this plant just had to go. I’ve given up hope that I can ever keep a plant alive.
Once the space was empty, I was able to finish a lamp project to fill the space in a much cleaner way. Here are a couple pics… I have more posted in a tutorial on my crafty blog here.
Who knew it could be so fun and simple? Added bonus—no one in the world will have this lamp shade.

Don't worry, I have the exact same problem. Plant killer-yup that's me.
You are so talented. Can you please come decorate my house? Also, I kill every green thing as well. I considered it a great triumph when my basil plant stayed alive all summer, then mourned the loss when I forgot to bring it in after the temperature dropped.
Can I pay you to come decorate our house, once we have one? You are super talented. We have the opposite problem. We have a plant that we got six and a half years ago that has died like four times but keeps coming back!
Ironic how we have babies but we can't keep plants alive. I love the lamp!
Lamp is from Target, right? I swear I saw it there yesterday.
And props for even buying a plant. That scares me. Jason does our plants. Outside.
