Update

Whew, the last couple weeks have been tiring! We really appreciate everyone who helped us so much before and during our move! We had more help than we knew what to do with. Here’s an update of how the move went and how we’re settling in in Minnesota:

- On January 12th the packers came to our house in Salt Lake to pack everything up. It was amazing to have them doing the work, but a bit of an overwhelming experience. Everything in our house was completely normal on Wednesday. When Mitch got home from work on Thursday, every single thing was packed. It caused me to be just a bit emotionally overwhelmed that weekend. Our friends threw us a going away party the night before the packers came. I cried afterwards. The Saturday just before we left we had a joint birthday party for 6 two-year-olds in our ward. Also cried at the end of that. That evening we went on a triple date with our best friends. And shocker, I cried again! I guess you know you really had a good life in a place if you cry when you leave.

Here is our house being packed. Thanks to my wonderful friends for babysitting our kids, and also bringing me lunch and others coming over just to chat while I was lonely in the house.

I was so looking forward to Saturday after being so emotional about moving! We were able to get all the kids in the gym at the church, have a bouncy house outside, tons of cake, balloons, and kids snacks like string cheese and goldfish. It was so fun to get Emerson together with his best buds one last time.

And here are the moms… can’t believe we all had these babies together just a couple short years ago. Miss these ladies already.E70A605C-81BE-49A4-B3AE-9D97E838E2FF

On Tuesday, January 17th we flew out to Minneapolis. Emerson loves flying and kept saying “Go PWANE!” the whole time we were taking off. Genevieve did pretty well but had a couple bouts of crying. However, with Emerson strapped in all was pretty calm on the flight! Loved that he had his own seat.893B6FF3-7943-45FE-8345-C78E4C57664C

When we arrived in Minneapolis we took a cab to get our car that had already been shipped out here. From there we were off to a hotel for the night. The movers weren’t arriving at our new place until Wednesday so Mitch’s company put us up. Mitch and Emerson had a blast in the hotel pool (indoor of course). I rested with my cute baby girl.

The next day we arrived early at our place and found this monstrous truck on the street:

How did we accumulate so much?

While we had awesome friends helping with our kids in SLC, we didn’t know anyone in our new area so we basically had to care for both the kids while the movers were hauling stuff in. I should mention they had all the doors propped open in the house. And it was 7 degrees outside… with a –20 wind chill. It was freezing in the house, so we turned on the fireplace and says prayers of thanks that the homeowners were renting from had left their TV plugged in for the day. Emerson watched quite a bit of Mickey on their dish network that day.

We’ve been doing lots of exploring around Minneapolis. We love the town we live in (Maple Grove) and have found that there are so many things to do here. We have a really nice ward and two young LDS families on our street! We feel very blessed to have already met so many wonderful people. The neighborhood kids come to play with Emerson all the time, we’ve been sledding, and Emerson just had his first preschool class this week. It’s once a week and just about a mile from our house. The other moms there are really great too, and I’m surprised to see how many stay-at-home moms there are around here!

Emerson’s new room is bigger than his last and he has a big closet to store his toys. He loves it.32B75A9D-F24D-463B-807F-826F655C0B86

Here are some snippets of the kitchen and dining room. Things are coming along though I am still working on some organization projects.4B9E2FA1-0909-47CB-8CEC-8CDD4EC05724

That’s about it! Mitch has really been liking his job and I’m trying to adjust to this new life but am happy my little family is loving it here. I’ll leave you with a picture of this beautiful store that is about 1 mile down the road from my house. A brand new Super Target!8D96C97E-20C7-49F4-A2D2-35810F1E90D6

I'm so happy to see things are going well. We miss you terribly! Your new place looks adorable. You know, when you write about 7 degree weather, it doesn't inspire me to want to spend four years of medical school in Minnesota ;). Good luck enduring the cold!

I could spend my life savings at Target! What a blessing that the move went smoothly (minus it being ridiculously cold), and you are getting settled. Of course you guys are making friends already...you are awesome!

We miss you guys! But I am glad you are adjusting well. I feel really bad that you posted the b day picture and Saiji and I aren't in it. Ha Ha Ha. It's not a big deal. Please keep in touch. Don't freeze to death out there...burrrr

Okay, Shan. I have just been catching up on your blog and I must say several things... First, you do have an amazing husband who totally took care of you when things were hard and hectic this year! I've loved listing to the song, "God Gave Me You," lately and one of my favorite parts is, "God gave me you for the ups and downs." That's totally how I feel about Allen and I know that's how you feel about Mitch. You know you're a good match when you can make some of your best memories in the most hectic, trying times! Second, I love your house. Both your new one and your old one!! Your style is amazing and I just want you to pick out all new pieces for my house and come decorate for me. :D I'm so glad you are loving your new home and new city! It'll be fun to see what's in store for you in Minneapolis. :D

Wow! That looks like a whole lot of work! i'm so glad that yall are adjusting to life in MN. So I used to think that moms that had their kids strapped in their carseats on airplanes were just way overprotective and overly cautious of their child's safety and then I realized that what they were really doing was strapping them in purely for sanity sake! Ingenious!!! I can't believe I didn't think of that! Anyway, glad everyone is safe and not freezing to death!!!
