December

December has been cooooooooooold this year. Oh man I hope I make it through this winter. As I type this in our basement office I am freezing and my hands are so numb it’s hard to type. And our house is warm the basement just never gets that warm. Oh I’m freezing.

We’ve tried to stay busy this month despite the freezing temperatures.

We (okay I) love our large fake Christmas tree (it’s clean, it’s free, it’s fireproof) but we love the fun tradition of cutting a tree down. We took the kids with some friends to a tree farm this year and told them we’d get a kids tree for them. Even though it was negative ten they had so much fun! (We got a babysitter for Henry and our friend’s baby.) When you drive in they hand you a saw and a map of their forest. Lol people here are so tough! We searched around and found the perfect little tree for the kids. Mitch and Emerson cut it down and then they cleaned it off for us while we warmed up with some hot chocolate. 2013-12-07 10.56.22 2013-12-07 10.56.20-22013-12-07 11.33.352013-12-08 00.09.34

I let them decorate the whole thing and held back from helping or “fixing” anything. I love how they decorated it!2013-12-07 16.43.23

Remember this Buzz Lightyear toy from 2 1/2 years ago? E still loves it.2013-12-05 08.50.13

Emerson loves soccer. And we love that it’s indoors. 2013-12-06 09.35.08-1 2013-12-06 09.49.26-1  Our friends were over for a game night and brought some delicious Nadia Cakes cupcakes. We promised E one in the morning after he went to bed and I completely forgot and sent the cupcakes home with our friends. I felt so bad the next morning I “had” to take the kids to the cupcake shop. I love this little shop. The flavors are to die for. 2013-12-02 11.04.51-3 Home Alone is always necessary for the holidays. E had never seen it and oh my goodness he was cracking up the whole time! He loved all the “contraptions” Kevin McCallister invented. After the movie he was going all over our house making “booby traps”… that boy has the best imagination. Such a fun movie.2013-12-07 17.32.26

And this guy! Gah! Melt my heart.2013-12-03 09.14.19

Took Genevieve on a day date with her friends to the Mall of America. We rode the rides and ate lunch! She had the best time!2013-12-10 12.34.31 2013-12-10 11.07.40

Playing in the snow with E while the other kids napped. There’s something great about when it snows here… it gets a little warmer and the whole outside feels like a quieter place.2013-12-04 14.28.21-2

When you have cool friends who live in a loft in the city they find swanky pop up restaurants for you. Not like we’d ever think of anything like this! We aren’t cool anymore. The dim sum was amazing.2013-12-12 19.25.58

Yearly Christmas caramels for friends (well mostly for me because I think I ate half ;)2013-12-16 12.02.12

I could sit by the tree all day. 2013-12-11 19.51.16 2013-12-08 10.39.11-1 I love this month, even though it’s busy. Happy December!

Your December looks magical! My hands are freezing as I type this, too. I love Home Alone. One of my favorites!
