Emerson’s 1st Birthday Party

On Saturday we threw a party for Emerson with family and friends. We had a lot of fun even though it was probably very unnecessary to have a party for a person who doesn’t even know the party is for him. Here’s what happened at the party:

- Complete pandemonium with dozens of kids running/crawling/playing all over our house

- Emerson did not like cake. Or whipped cream frosting! Is he really my child? He got disinterestedabout 2 minutes in and started playing with the balloons on his high chair. I find it really odd that all this kid likes to eat is veggies, fruit, and cheese. Live a little dude!

- So.many.toys. We at least quadrupled the number of baby toys we have with all Emerson’s bday presents! Thank you to everyone for your awesome gifts. Emerson has been constantly entertained this week with his new loot. Also, some adorable clothes which I’ll show some pictures of below.

- For the past couple of weeks Emerson had been taking a couple steps here and there and then falling. Just after nearly everyone had left the party, minus a couple family members, Emerson just decided to walk across the living room. He walked from our couch over to our TV; we all started clapping and then E started clapping for himself! What can I say, my kid likes attention. Probably because I give him a lot of it.

Here are some party shots:

On Tuesday, E’s real birthday, I even tried giving him a leftover cupcake. He barely took a lick of it… I’m puzzled.IMGP2152

I used thank you candy bags as an excuse to buy my favorite candy in large bags—peanut butter M&Ms and Haribo gummy bears. IMGP1929

A mix of friends and family.

Here are the cake shots. Emerson was so polite when he was eating (not how he usually eats for the record).

My friend Diana knitted this fox hat for E—how cute is this hat?

I promise, soon the 1-year birthday posts will be over. And I apologize in advance to my future children who won’t get so much attention on their birthdays. Even if the first-born children are our test subjects for parenting, they do get some perks.

Cute birthday party. It looks like it was a lot of fun. That's so funny E didn't like his cake! No wonder he is so skinny! Wish we lived closer so we could have celebrated with you.

ah! I'm so sad we couldn't be there for E's big day :( From the looks of it, you put most first-time mommies (including myself) to shame! Can we please pick a day to meet up for lunch soon? We can just do takeout again and let the kids run wild!
