Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s day was wonderful with Mitch, but the actual day while he was gone at work was crazzzy. It was actually hilarious and tiring but funny. More to come on that.

I woke up early and made some heart shaped strawberry pancakes for my boys. Love an excuse to make pancakes!

Mitch surprised me with my favorite flowers and the best candies/chocolates—Haribo gummy bears, Cadbury dark chocolate, and Lindt truffles. Mmm. I swear I gained weight just looking at them.IMG_2431

In the morning the kids and I played on our bed. Vieve loves watching Emerson jump on the pillows. IMG_2411

This is where the day got really fun. I had an appointment at the gym’s infant center to drop off Vieve at 10am. This makes the gym a little stressful because I have to be there right on time. Of course I was sweating before I even got in the car just getting the car seat ready, kid’s stuff and snacks ready, as well as packing my entire gym bag and change of clothes/toiletries/shower stuff/etc.

So I get to the gym, drop them off and things seem good. Go to my class at 10:15, then get ready, then get the kids. This day my class was really tough. I love hot yoga but this was one of the hardest classes I’d done and even just after the class my arms and legs were shaking from being so sore. I got ready and went to get the kids. Genevieve just had a major poo so I had to get her right away and change her. Emerson was running around with the other kids in the play center. Once I got Vieve all changed and ready Emerson did not want to leave. I told him I’d give him a treat if he came with me out to the car (bribing my child, terrible I know).

The walk from the child center to the car is really long. The center is in the back of the gym and we’d parked across the parking lot. I was carrying the insanely heavy carseat in one arm and holding Emerson’s hand in the other—about halfway to the gym doors my arms were shaking uncontrollably from being sore and holding the carseat. I started walking really quick so I could get to the car and I really just couldn’t hold it. The carseat was slipping so I paused to switch hands. Right as we reached the doors Emerson decided he was upset we were leaving and decided to throw a little tantrum in the entryway. Oh how fun that was! I was about to drop the carseat I was so sore, it was snowing outside, and Emerson was flopping on the floor lying down and refusing to walk. Finally, he wouldn’t walk so I picked him up in one arm, held the carseat in the other and found my whole body shaking and sweating as I had to lug the kids and my huge bag (and yoga mat!) out to the car in the snow! It was a hilarious sight. Emerson was sliding down my leg throwing a fit and meanwhile I was praying I wouldn’t drop the baby’s carseat. Just as Emerson was about to fall out of my arm and completely slide down my leg, we made it to the car. Hallelujah! I think I need to start bringing my stroller into the gym.

Then, the kids were both miserable in the car and no amount of snacks or milk or treats could help them. I was flustered driving home with them fussy and being in a new part of town, so naturally I got lost! The map on my car’s navigation was too old to show the road’s I was on and I ended up driving way out past our house by like 10 extra minutes and had to find my way home, all with screaming kids. What a joyful afternoon! I was so grateful for naptime that day.

That evening we went out on a family “double-date” with our kids. This made up for the bad afternoon. They were really sweet and even helped pick out some new little notebooks for me with Mitch… I think these are just the funniest little notebook titles:

Whew, sorry to overload you dear readers with such a long post, but I really needed to vent about that day. I think I’m still recovering. Happy Valentine’s Day ;)

Ahhhh! Temper-tantrums at the worst times ever!! Never when you can easily manage them. We had a similar meltdown at the zoo a couple weeks ago and although I was only carrying one crazy child, I can imagine how you felt, especially after an intense yoga class. Afternoon naps are a really wonderful thing!

Ohhhhh the joys :) I feel ya! Let's invent a carseat that doesn't weigh 25 lbs. okay? I seriously can't believe how heavy those things are! Load a baby in there and it's crazy. No wonder I have back problems :) Glad you made it through that day!!
